Y2 Consultants is a certified, woman-owned small business specializing in engineering, natural resources management, GIS, landscape architecture, land surveying and land planning whose founders have more than 50 years’ experience in their respective fields. Founded in 2010 by Brenda Younkin and Zia Yasrobi, our mission is to serve our clients by providing cost-effective and innovative solutions. Zia Yasrobi, PE

Zia moved to Jackson in 1978 and decided he did not want to leave this great community. After founding Y2 with wife Brenda Younkin, Zia has focused on providing a wide array of engineering services in Wyoming, Utah, and Florida. Zia holds a Class A Contractor license in the Town of Jackson and is licensed to practice engineering in 11 states. Zia gives back to the community in many ways, but his primary focus is in the Elks Club and Lions Club.

Owner/Natural Resources Specialist

Brenda Younkin, MS, CRMC

A native of Nebraska, Brenda completed graduate school at Utah State University and found her home in the mountains in 2001. After founding Y2 with husband Zia Yasrobi in 2010, Brenda stayed in touch with her ranching roots by working with federal land permittees and land management agencies to complete vegetation monitoring and grazing term permit renewals on federal lands. Brenda has extensive experience with NEPA, land use plan development, and standards and guidelines development. Brenda is a former skater for and big fan of the Jackson Hole Juggernauts roller derby league, serving as their treasurer for 6 years. Whenever she can, Brenda also volunteers her time with Community Safety Network and other community organizations.

Range Scientist

Bree Burton, MS

Bree is the Range Scientist at Y2 Consultants. Bree grew up in Challis, Idaho where she gained her passion for working with ranchers and public lands. Bree has been with Y2 for two and half years and focuses on coordinating the process for public land grazing permit renewals. Bree works with ranchers and federal land agencies across the west to assist with all aspects of the NEPA process including Land Health Evaluations and Environmental Assessments. In her free time, Bree enjoys camping, fishing, archery and exploring the great outdoors with her three dogs.

Rangeland Wildlife Specialist

Russell Burton

Russell has been a Rangeland Wildlife Specialist at Y2 since 2016. He is a true Wyoming native, born and raised. He grew up in Saratoga, attended the University of Wyoming, and now lives near Pinedale. He is an avid hunter, fishermen, archer, and outdoorsman, and is very involved in the Sublette County 4-H program. Russell’s expertise at Y2 includes rangeland, habitat, and wildlife management; vegetation data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting; interagency coordination; study design and implementation; and habitat improvement planning.

Fun fact: Russell achieved the rank of Eagle Scout through Boy Scouts of America and has received his American Degree through the National FFA Organization.

Chuck Butterfield, PhD

Chuck has been Y2’s Senior Ecologist since 2013. He is the rare and elusive Wyoming native. Chuck is the wrangler of the Natural Resource/GIS teams and head plant nerd.

Co-Manager, Civil Engineering Department

Katie Creasey, PE

Katie is the co-manager of the Civil Engineering Department and has been with Y2 since 2015. She grew up in the land of 10,000 lakes, earned a degree in Chemical engineering at MIT and a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford, then moved to Jackson to get away from the density on the coasts. Her interests include water resources management, stormwater management, water distribution systems, and site planning and grading. She is licensed as a Professional Engineer in Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah, and is currently serving as the secretary of the Wyoming Society of Professional Engineers. When not at the office, Katie spends her time trying to become an official Jackson local by skiing, mountain biking, and hiking as much as possible.

Carrie Daniel

Carrie has been an Office Manager at Y2 Consultants since July 2013. She grew up in Michigan and moved out west 36 years ago to be closer to her family. Carrie lived in the Jackson area for 16 years and is now working remotely from Boise, Idaho. (Technology is a wonderful thing!)  Prior to Carrie joining the Y2 team, she worked in the medical and legal field.

Structural Engineer

Forest Davidson, EIT

Forest has been a structural engineer at Y2 since the fall of 2019. His love for the outdoors and the mountains brought him to Wyoming from Missouri. He grew up in Moberly, Missouri and attended the University of Missouri, where he received a degree in Civil Engineering. He has a passion for hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. Forest’s expertise at Y2 is structural design of materials including steel, timber, concrete, and masonry.

Landscape Architecture Studio Lead

Patricia Ehrman, PLA, LEED

Patricia returned to her family’s Wyoming roots, moving to Jackson in 1988 where she worked for a local engineering firm and a landscape architecture firm, and then operated her own landscape architecture design firm. She joined the Y2 team in 2013, filling the role of Landscape Architecture Studio Lead. Her expertise includes design, permitting and construction detailing for site and landscape planning projects ranging from small residences to urban commercial properties to large parks.  

Human Resources and Marketing Manager

Sara Fagan

Sara joined Y2 Consultants in 2020 as Human Resources and Marketing Manager. She has 20+ years’ experience in organizational development and operations, systems and strategy. She is a generalist with extensive experience in human resources, marketing and communications, finance, grant and proposal writing, and technical editing. Prior to Y2, Sara was the Operations Director at the Jackson Hole Children’s Museum. Sara has also consulted regularly for local nonprofits, including the Center for Jackson Hole, Children’s Grand Adventure, JH Trout Unlimited, and Northern Rockies Conservation Cooperative. Sara holds a master’s degree from Duke University. In her free time, she enjoys running, reading, volunteering for her local community, and exploring the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem with her husband, Chris, daughter, Dani, and dog, Moxie.

Survey Department Manager

Mark Fellermann, PLS

Mark has been surveying in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem for 15 years. He cut his teeth in the woods of Minnesota, grew up in Upstate New York and received his formal education in Charlottesville, Virginia. Mountaineering on snow and rock, gardening, and canoeing are the passions that have kept him close to Jackson for the last 20 years.

Civil Engineering

Jacob Gardner, EIT

Jake has been a Civil Engineer at Y2 since 2018. A native of Florida, Jake traded in the waves and sunshine for the mountains to enjoy climbing and hiking. Jake received a B.S. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering and began a career in Land Development where he developed a skill set in road and utilities design. In his time at Y2, Jake has completed numerous projects ranging from simple site grading to stream restoration. Jake’s first visit to Wyoming was when he attended an outdoor educators course through the National Outdoor Leadership School in the summer of 2015.

Civil Engineering

Skyler Helffrich, PE

Skyler was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. After graduating from UMASS Amherst in 2015, Skyler moved back to Baltimore to start his career as a transportation planner and roadway designer. He then moved back north to Boston after a few years and continued his work as a roadway designer. His love of the mountains however soon brought him out west. Skyler has been a Civil Engineer with Y2 Consultants since 2018. Skyler’s work has spanned from North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Delaware, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Wyoming. Skyler’s area of expertise is road and pathway planning and design.

Structural Engineering Lead

Jeff Hobson, PE

Jeff is at the helm of Y2’s Structural Engineering Department and has been with Y2 since 2011. He specializes in concrete design, steel design, masonry design and timber/wood design. He also has expertise in retaining wall design and pre-stress concrete design. At Y2, Jeff has headed up some of our most successful education building and commercial projects.

Prior to joining Y2, Jeff was a structural engineer in Northern California. He aided in the design of some our countries most celebrated wineries and vineyards.

Resident Engineer

John Kemp, PE

Y2 stole John away from the Big Apple, where he worked for Liro Engineering and aided in many renowned projects such as the High Line in Manhattan and the Hunter’s Point South Development in Queens. Kemp came to Y2 in 2016 as a civil engineer which he rapidly progressed to head of the civil engineering department and now is our Senior Project Engineer. John handles a wide range of undertakings including infrastructure development, residential, and commercial construction. Recent projects include Teton County School District’s Munger Mountain Elementary, a new brewery, and streetscapes for Town of Jackson. Smaller projects have included due diligence reporting for multi-million-dollar residential properties evaluating civil and mechanical conditions as part of real estate sales. John is a vital part of the Y2 team.

Civil Engineering

Abby King, EIT

Abby is a civil engineer in training and was a two-time college intern with Y2 since summer 2017. While with Y2, she is pursuing an online master’s degree in Environmental Engineering at WPI where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in 2018. Specifically, her work and school focus includes water resources management, water distribution systems, and learning new facets of the job. Abby grew up in Maine and moved to Jackson to chase bigger mountains, bigger rivers, and new outdoor recreation skills. She stayed because of the work variety, close community, and amazing outdoor rec that her friends and family in Jackson have introduced to her over the past few years.

Civil Engineer

Tyler Klos, EIT

Tyler grew up in Wisconsin, the land of cheese and the Green Bay Packers. Tyler received a B.S. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin. His career path started near his hometown where he gained experience in site planning, grading, and stormwater management. Typical projects in the region ranged from apartment buildings, schools, hospitals, and commercial developments. He decided to make the move to Jackson to explore the Tetons skiing, fishing, hiking, and camping with his wife and dog.

Controller

Tim Koski

Tim is the Controller at Y2, and has been part of the team since summer 2019. He lived the mountain life in Jackson as a fishing guide and avid skier on-and-off for the past 25 years. He is now delightfully settled into fatherhood and the CPA world while still doing the things he loves. Tim is an integral part of Y2 as navigator through the financial realm.

Survey Technician

Noah McCorkel

Noah has been a Survey Technician at Y2 since 2018. A native of Colorado, Noah moved to Jackson to recreate in the mountains surrounding town and spend time with close friends. When he is not surveying, Noah enjoys skiing, climbing, biking and reading.

Structural Engineering

Max Moran, EIT

Max Moran is a structural EIT from Burlington, Vermont. Upon his graduation from the University of Vermont in 2018, Max moved to Wyoming in search of soft snow and big mountains. Max began working with Y2 in the spring of 2019 and is working towards his PE licensing. Max performs a variety of roles in the structural department including but not limited to structural design, drafting, and special inspections.

Survey Technician

Ryan Nichols

Ryan has worked as a Survey Technician at Y2 since 2020. Ryan grew up in Southwestern Ohio and moved out west after graduating from Hocking College in 2002. Ryan started his surveying career in Southern California and eventually spent 5 years surveying the Pacific Northwest. He moved to Teton Valley in 2009 where he met his wife and has a son and 2 dogs. In his free time, Ryan enjoys working on his house, camping, woodworking, and spending time with his family.

Senior Planner Emeritus

Scott Pierson, PLS

Scott is a leading and respected figure, locally, regionally and state-wide. He has a thorough understanding of the issues facing the valley and the region, mediating land disputes, and testifying on land- and survey-related litigation. Scott began his surveying career in Jackson in 1980, subsequently establishing Pierson Land Surveys, which added landscape architecture and planning departments in the 90’s. Following the firm’s acquisition in 2017, Scott remained aboard to loan his expertise on complex land planning issues to Y2’s clients.

Senior GIS Project Manager

John Rogers, MS

Migrating from the mountains of the Sierras and Cascades, John joined Y2 in 2020 as the Senior GIS Project Manager. He has a BA in Environmental Studies and BS in Geography from the University of Oregon, and a Graduate Certificate in GIS and MS in Geography from Portland State University. With experience in both the government and private sectors, his areas of expertise include geospatial analysis and statistics, data standardization, development and quality, natural resource management and assessment, digital terrain analysis, climate science and hydrology, along with a passion for cartography. John spends his recreation time year-round in the mountains trekking, biking, or skiing, and in the summer enjoys adventuring the West by motorcycle or taking in the lakes and rivers paddling the canoe he built.

Co-Manager, Civil Engineering Department

Vince Roux, MS

Vince co-manages the Civil Engineering Department with Katie. He joined Y2 in 2013 after earning a Master’s from Colorado School of Mines. Vince’s grandfather, Dr. Jacques Roux, moved his family from Switzerland to Jackson in the 60’s, and although Vince grew up abroad he has always had roots in the valley. Vince’s engineering expertise includes water and wastewater conveyance and treatment, grading and drainage design, roads and driveways, environmental testing and remediation, water rights, and he is the in-house CAD expert. Vince is a husband and father, a passionate angler, and an avid snow sport enthusiast. Prior to entering the workforce Vince completed mandatory Swiss military duty and was a Peace Corps Volunteer for 2 years in Burkina Faso, West Africa.

Administrative Assistant

Danielle Scott

Danielle has been an administrative assistant at Y2 since the fall of 2018. She reluctantly moved here from the UP of Michigan with her husband in 2007 so he could snowboard and play in the mountains. With a background as a medical office specialist and in small business management, Danielle has a keen eye for detail. She is a former skater for the JH Juggernaut roller derby team, a dog mom, and a self-proclaimed craft nerd.

Isaac Serre, EIT

Isaac has been a structural EIT at Y2 since 2018. Originally from Northern Minnesota, he moved to Jackson to enjoy hunting, snowmobiling, and biking. Isaac has 5 years in the industry and has proficient practice in timber, steel, and concrete design.

Wetlands Specialist/GIS Mapping

Marley Vaughn, MS

Ms. Vaughn is Y2’s lead wetland ecologist and a GIS specialist. Marley’s professional experience and education have focused in and around wetlands and waters of the U.S. performing wetland delineations, permitting and research on wetlands, their botany, soils, and their environmental impacts. Additionally, Ms. Vaughn has expertise in GIS and spatial database development and engineering. Beyond her professional pursuits, Marley has a love for playing in the outdoors and all it provides and is a Jackson native.

Danielle Walker

Danielle is a Rangeland Field Crew Lead with Y2. Originally from Idaho, Danielle moved to Jackson three years ago to enjoy the outdoor opportunities and working with Y2. Danielle specializes in field data collection and planning, data QA/QC, and crew management. During the summers Danielle enjoys working in the field and skating the trails around Jackson.

Survey Project Staff

Mike Whitman, MA

Mike has worked as a Survey Technician at Y2 since 2017 and is currently pursuing his Land Surveyor in Training credentials through the University of Wyoming. Mike grew up on a small island off the coast of Maine but moved to California for college, where he graduated from the University of California Berkeley with a master’s degree in geophysics and worked for the USGS on landslide mitigation projects in the Bay Area. After moving to Jackson in 2012 Mike worked as a rock-climbing guide in the Tetons for Exum Mountain Guides. An avid climber and ski mountaineer, he still manages to fit in some climbing guide work on weekends throughout the summer months.

Associate Geotechnical Engineer

Meriel Young, EIT

Originally from Scotland, Meriel moved to Colorado in 2016 where she received an M.S. degree in Geotechnical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. Meriel worked for a large consulting firm in Denver for the last three years, both while in graduate school and after graduation. Meriel has experience in soil and rock classification and testing, foundation design, and slope stability analysis. Meriel has been a part of the Y2 team since 2020.

Meriel enjoys being in the mountains and is excited to experience all the different recreational opportunities Jackson and the Tetons have to offer.
